household item or couture?

reviewing the fall 12 collections, i came across this margiela bolero and vest made entirely out of vintage baseball gloves:

it reminded me of the time my best friend and i turned black garbage bags into dresses and shirts. we thought we were so innovative (which we may have been back in the mid-nineties- ok probably not.) a quick google search later, i found that we were far from original, and though i don't remember exactly what we came up with, i know it didn't compete with some of what i found:

while searching "household items, fashion" (or something of that vein) i was absolutely amazed when i came across a video of hussein chalayan's a/w '00 collection (skip to 4:30 if you want):

it's fucking genius- an entire living room that turns into clothing! slipcovers that turn into dresses, chairs that turn into breifcases, and a table that turns into a skirt?!

i'm actually kind of bummed that i hadn't really done any research on hussein chalayan before- check out his s/s '07 collection, this is amaze-balls:

 i have no idea how it works, nor do i care. at first i thought that thing rotating was shrink wrapping the material, but then i realized it looks far too controlled to be doing that. all i know is it's freaking rad.

anyway, i'm not so sure if any of this is very practical for the general public (duh, that's why it's called couture!). i think, for now at least, we'll all have to make due with american apparel's circle scarf:
